The ring band is 4mm x 51mm (adjustable) and the lapis lazuli cabachon is 6mm. 

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli has been used by humans for more than 6,000 years. It is one of the first gemstones to be worn as jewellery.

Artists of the European Renaissance used lapis in artworks by grinding it up to be used as a paint for its rare and beautiful colour. Ultramarine pigment is still used today. 

Its name comes from the Greek word for stone - lapis - and the Persian word for blue -lazhward. It is also connected to the Arabic azur - sky.

The gemstone was keenly sought out by the ancient Sumerians who believed it to be the stone of the heavens. It was seen as a stone of truth and knowledge, connected to the Sumerians’ Kingdom of Aratta - which was said to be rich in lapis lazuli. The Garden of Eden has too been said to have the tree of knowledge and truth carved of a blue stone. 

The ancient Egyptians also adored lapis lazuli, and Cleopatra amassed great quantities believing it to be the stone of truth, eternal life and power. Her palace was inlaid with the gemstone and she also ground lapis up to wear as an eye liner to convey its powerful qualities. The ancient Egyptians believed the stone facilitated direct communication with the sky gods, descendants of the very ancient Annunaki beings.
